NewsCup presented to the MIT e-club this week. The audience has a diverse MIT affiliated group of entrepreneurs - engineers, scientists, and lawyers.

Three of the strongest web entrepreneur groups present were provided a lot of feedback about narrowing the market. They "got" the technology and the market and were very supportive with both specific and general advice. The founders of Co2 stats provide an stimulating format and great advice. Co2stats is a widget you can embed which tracks the environmental friendliness of your site and helps estimate the energy consumption and carbon waste produced from your website.

NewsCup is search ownership. NewsCup combines the most successful features of social bookmarking and search into revenue generation which goes beyond advertising, and incentivizes users to participate and grow the business.

NewsCup is based on 3 years of hobbying with the semantic web and related ways to organized and collect data on a personal level, from the internet scale. There have been two prototypes, the first written in Python/PHP/JS, the second adding C and C++. The next prototype and private alpha will be this Fall.

There will be a 10 minute presentation including screencasts of the two protoypes, and a look at competitors in the same genre. The remaining time will be for Q&A. NewsCup is looking for founding partners, and general advice.

Jonathan Hendler started coding at age 8 in 1982, but decided he liked drawing pictures better. In 1995 he quit school to start a MultiMedia busiess, in video and animations, eventually landing in the web, starting with PHP in 1999. He completed his Computer Science Degree from Northeastern in 2003.
